How this site has changed

Every version of the site, newest first, with what each one added or changed.

  1. v2.0

The site as a knowledge system

A rebuild around one idea: designed structure shapes possibility. Every page, guide, term and note now sits in one registry, so the site can be read as a network rather than a set of sections.

    • New navigation: explore, guides, work, pursuits, library, about.
    • An explore page, a start page for first visits, search, a now page, a colophon and a feed.
    • Pathways through the guides for four kinds of reader, drawn as lines on a transit map.
    • The craft map: educational technology as six regions, each a card that turns over to its guides, primers and glossary entries.
    • How I work, in four views: read, cards, table and checklist.
    • Worked cases, patterns, counterpositions, toolkit moves and a one-problem page in work.
    • Concepts and lineage in the library, and a green colour of its own.
    • The Atlas and the Loom on the about page, as a contour map and a weave to explore.
    • The five field guides moved onto the engine the guide series use, keeping their look.
    • Dark mode replaced by Dim, a toned-down light theme.
    • A last-updated date in the footer, and this page.
  2. v1.6

    Five field guides

The set of field guides completed, and every deck given a live remote.

    • Working defaults and false certainties added as the fourth and fifth field guides.
    • False certainties and its index locked behind the password with its guide.
    • The home page library mixes its collections.
    • A live deck remote loads in every guide, talk and sharing.
  3. v1.5

    Guide series and glossaries

The two guide series arrived, with glossaries generated from them, and the site learned to work on a phone.

    • The statistics guide, and a look of its own for each guide series.
    • Both guide series on the site, behind a password.
    • Three glossaries in the library, generated from the guides, cut into a page per guide.
    • Glossary links to slides open in a new tab.
    • The collections levelled, so they sit alike.
    • The whole site made to read and work on a phone.
  4. v1.4

    Field guides begin

A talk on designing for learning, and the first three field guides.

    • Designing for learning added as a talk, with a note on ease of use versus ease of learning.
    • The cognitive bias field guide, with a note on practice, and later its third edition.
    • The collective fallacies and faulty arguments field guides.
    • The three field guides bundled and linked to one another, with reference lists derived from their entries.
    • The night room added as a new-tech exploration.
  5. v1.3

    Reflections and inspirations

Two personal sections, and one engine for every deck.

    • Reflections added, and every deck brought onto one engine.
    • Inspirations added as a fourth personal section, with the map of world views.
    • The favicon coloured by lane, and the footer headings lined up.
  6. v1.2

    Guides and talks

The first guide, the first talks, and a worked example of futuring.

    • Guides added, starting with the one on learning materials, driven by click and swipe as well as the arrows.
    • Talks added, with a note on what design is in edtech.
    • The futuring worked example, behind a password.
    • Coffee, as a library shelf and as a pursuit.
  7. v1.1

    Findable

The site made legible to search engines and other readers.

    • A sitemap and robots.txt, generated from the same data the pages read.
    • Canonical URLs on every page, and structured data for people, notes and shelves.
    • A share card, so a link dropped in a chat is no longer bare text.
  8. v1.0

    Launch

The first version, built on the Atlas & Loom design system.

    • The site built on Atlas & Loom: work, pursuits, library and about.
    • The mark, a colour for each section, and movement on scroll.
    • The library filled, with two more shelves.
    • A paragraph on how I came to mahjong, on its pursuit page.
