How this site works
This is not organised as a conventional portfolio.
Projects matter, but I am usually more interested in what survives the project: an observation, a principle, a method, a changed judgement, or a question worth carrying into the next situation.
The site therefore separates different kinds of knowledge.
What holds it together
Much of my work begins with a simple observation: what people are able to do is partly shaped by the conditions around them.
A classroom influences participation. An interface directs attention. A rule changes behaviour. A representation changes what becomes visible. A system creates incentives and constraints.
I am interested in how these conditions are designed — and how they can be changed deliberately to support better learning, thinking, and action.
The work collected here moves across educational technology, learning science, design, learning environments, systems, facilitation, futuring, and games. They may appear to be different subjects. I increasingly see them as different ways of studying the same problem.

How sure
Six levels of confidence
Not everything here claims the same certainty. Where it matters, a page says which of these it is, in words rather than colours.
- Status Established — Strongly supported by evidence or consensus.
- Status Position — My considered reading, based on evidence and practice.
- Status Practice-derived — Learned mainly by doing it many times.
- Status Working proposition — Promising, and still being tested.
- Status Open question — Deliberately unresolved.
- Status Speculation — Exploratory thought with little evidence behind it yet.
Taken together, these form something closer to a working knowledge system than a portfolio.
The aim is not to present a finished worldview. It is to make the development of one visible.
